TRAVEL ITINERARIES BOTSWANA - 12 days

Day 1
Tuli Block

You’ll arrive from Amsterdam early in the morning and we meet at Johannesburg International Airport. We will leave for Botswana at 11h00. We cross into Botswana at the Martinsdrift border post, and proceed into the Tuli Block to our exclusive overnight campsite situated on the banks of the Limpopo river.

We will be able to experience the magic of a star studded African night around our campfire, whilst enjoying our first sumptuous "camp dinner" on safari. On this night you will also be taught the tricks and tips of off-road 4x4 driving as well as survival skills in the bush.

Okavango DeltfaDay 2
Makgadikgadi Pans

The route takes us further and further away from civilization, until we reach the town on the edge of the endless Makgadikgadi Pans - Letlhakane. After refuelling we continue our journey past the village of Matshumu, where within a few kilometres we will have our first view of the pans.

Our overnight stop will be on the edge of the Makgadikgadi Pans at the mystical Kubu Island.

Day 3
Gweta Pans

We start the day with a short walk to the “top” of the island for a 360º view of the surrounding area, before we depart for another day of off-road driving.
The route takes us across the vast Ntetwe pan, before we exit the pans at Gweta and proceed to “Planet Baobab” where we will camp tonight. As the name suggests, Planet Baobab is located in a grove of eight giant baobabs.

Day 4
Moremi Game Reserve
We now drive on tar to the “gateway of the Okavango Delta” – Maun. 
From Maun we once again enter the wilderness through the famous “Buffalo Fence”, and then further north-west to the unique Moremi Game Reserve which was founded under the government of Mrs. Moremi, the widow of chief Moremi the 3rd. 

Moremi forms an intricate part of the Okavango Delta, compromising permanently swamped areas, seasonally swamped areas and dryland.
This is prime wildlife area where elephant, hippo, buffalo, lion, cheetah and most other game can be seen and experienced in abundance.

We camp on an island in the Okavango Delta for the next two nights. From the island you will be doing Mokoro trips and Bush walks. mokoro

Day 5
Moremi 

By boat we will search for the shy Sitatunga antelope, and stare in wonder at the exotic bird and animal life surrounding us.

Day 6
Moremi

Exit Moremi at North Gate, drive for a while next to the Khwai River which is known for its vast number of game and raptors, before we turn south-east to our camp site which is situated in a concession area adjacent to the Moremi Game Reserve – Mankwe.
Socialising around the campfire tonight in the middle of the Botswana wilderness will be an evening to treasure forever… Who knows which of the nocturnals will visit us tonight! 

Day 7
Chobe National Park
Ahead of us today is a strenuous off-road drive through one of the most spectacular wilderness and wild life areas in Africa!

We drive past the Magwikhwe sand ridge, enter the Chobe National Park at Mababe Gate and proceed to the Savuti area where we will have lunch under huge Camelthorn trees. 

Our route will now take us further north through the Chobe Forest Reserve and eventually to the comfortable Chobi Safari Lodge campsite, where we will camp on the banks of this magnificent river.

The Chobe National Park is the second largest park in Botswana and can be divided into four main focal points. Chobe River front with floodplains and teak forest, Savute Marsh in the west, the Linyanti swamps in the north-west and the hot, dry hinterland in between. Beside the bird life it is also known for its huge concentration of elephants, buffalo and hippo. They cross the river each morning and evening to an island in the middle of the river.

Day 8
Chobe

jeep safari in the Chobe NPChobe is "Birder's Paradise". One can watch the Fish Eagles as they swoop down to catch fish, watch flocks of Abdims Storks as they soar with the thermals, or enjoy the harmony of flight when the large White Pelicans do a low level fly-by! 
The boat cruise on the Chobe river this afternoon, will undoubtedly be 
one of the highlights of the Safari!! 

Our last evening at the Chobe Safari Lodge campsite, with its magnificent views over the Chobe flood plain.

Day 9 & 10
Victoria falls


Destination - Mosi oa Tunya (victoria falls) - The smoke that thunders!
We use the Gazungula ferry across the mighty Zambezi river into Zambia, and drive to Livingstone where we will camp at the Maramba campsite for the next two nights. 

We will visit the falls, browse through the curio markets, take helicopter flips over the falls, bungi jump from the Livingstone bridge, or tackle the white water on a raft below the falls!

Day 11
Nata

A leisurely drive through this untamed wilderness area will take us down south to Nata, and we will camp at the comfortable Nata Lodge campsite which will allow you to relax, re-charge your inner resources and review all you have seen and experienced on the preceding nine days since leaving civilization.

Day 12
Johannesburg

The return journey starts in all earnest. Our route takes us past Francistown, further and further south until we cross the border at Maartinsdrift back into South Africa at around lunch time.
We arrive back in Johannesburg at around 17h00.
